<p>The emergency release is fitted to a vehicle safety belt and releases the wearer automatically after a time delay. It comprises a housing (1) for spring-loaded hinged arms (5, 6) which retain the end (7) of the belt. These arms have a coil spring (3) attached which is extended in the event of a strong pull, such as in an accident. This pushes down a spring leaf catch (9, 12, 14) by means of a lever (13) and releases an oil-filled dashpot cylinder (11). Another coil spring (10) applies pressure to meter out (18) the oil (20), the dashpot having cables (24) attached which open the hinged arms as it moves rearwards.</p> |
