A method for automatically selecting a channel in a digital broadcasting system is provided to select a channel having the highest image quality in a television when the same channels are scanned from plural broadcasting transmitting stations, thereby easily using an optimum transmitting station when using a public antenna. An automatic channel selecting method in a digital broadcasting receiver comprises the following steps of: performing the whole channel scan based on a received digital broadcasting signal(302); selecting the same channel signals transmitted from different transmitting stations(304); performing a decoding test with respect to each of the selected same channel signals(306); selecting the same channel, having the smallest error rate through the decoding test, as a scan channel(308); and displaying the selected same channel and individual channel data so as for a viewer to view the channel and data(310). |
