The bulk material conveyor has a scraper travelling over a fixed supporting surface and having openings for the material to pass through. The supporting surface (6) has one opening (8) to allow the taking of samples, and below the opening is a rotary member (9) which seals it off and briefly uncovers it. The rotary member may be a conveyor belt running around rollers (10, 10a), the belt top run (11a) bearing against the supporting surface around the opening. There are one more transverse sampling slots in the belt. The slot width in the lengthwise direction of the belt (11) can be at least equal to the mean particle dia. of the material handled.
