PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tread improving workability, a rolling resistance property, wear resistance, and wet skid performance with highly good balance, and to provide a tire with the tread using it. SOLUTION: This rubber composition for the tread contains 5-80 pts.wt. silica of 25-100 m<SP>2</SP>/g nitrogen adsorption specific surface area, and 0.5-1.8 pts.wt. zinc oxide to 100 pts.wt. rubber component.
