Mixt. inhibiting corrosion, esp. for insulating tube or pipe contains >=1 alkali metal carbonate(a) and >=1 each of a borate(b), silicate(c), benzoate (d), and nitrite(e), where cpds. (b, c, d, e) are soluble in water. The mixt. pref. contains by wt. 5-10%, esp (10%)(a); 5-10%, (10%) (b); 15-20%, (20%)(c); 5-10%, (10%) (d); and 50-75%, esp. (50%)(e). Cpd. (b) is pref. an alkali(ne earth) borate; cpd. (c) an alkali metal silicate; cpd. (d) an alkali(ne earth) benzoate; and cpd.(e) an alkali(ne earth) nitrite. The esp. preF. mixt. uses Na2CO3, borax, Na- and/or K-orthosilicate, sodium benzoate, and NaNO2. The tube or pipe may be cast iron, steel, Zn-coated steel, Cu or its alloys, esp. brass, or Al and its alloys; and is used in sanitary equipment; heating; ventilation; air-conditioning; or refrigeration; the mixt. protects the tube from corrosion.
