<p>Prepn. of methyl 2-thienylacetate (I) comprises reaction of thallium (III) nitrate with one mole of acetylthiophene in methanol in presence of HClO4, sepg. the thallium (I) nitrate, formed, diluting with water and extracting the ester with a solvent. The product is an inter. for cephalosporins. Simple process in one stage; product is easily isolated. Typically, a 70% yield of methyl 2-thienyl-acetate was prepd. by reaction of acetylthiophen (6.3g) with thallium (III) nitrate trihydrate (22.2g) in methanol (125 ml) containing 70% HClO4 (25 ml) for 24 h at room temp., diluting and extracting with CHCl3.</p> |
