An electrode which can be polarised in an electrolyte consists of an electrically highly conductive conductor (1), preferably of metal or carbon, which is surrounded by an inner layer (2) of an electrically conductive plastic material which has good resistance with respect to the electrolyte and does not lose its closed structure on insertion of the electrode, so that protection of the electrically highly conductive conductor (1) is ensured against electrochemical or chemical attack. The inner layer (2) is surrounded by an outer layer (3) of electrically conductive plastic material, which loses its closed structure as a result of the electrochemical processes occurring and is expanded to a larger volume so that the active working area of the electrode is increased as a result of the porosity achieved in this way. …<IMAGE>… |
