Device for hairdrying and coiffure work, especially curling tongs or helmet dryer with at least one flash tube or impulse discharge lamp in proximity of the hair to be treated, whereby the radiant energy released by the discharge reacts either directly, or through a reflector, or optic system on the hair. The flash tube is covered by a protective tube manufactured of a material which radiation to pass through pref. glass being used. The tube slides over the flash tube. Pref. this protective tube acts as a radiation filter. The liberated radiation pref. includes a high proportion of infra-red radiation. After each discharge of the flash tube it is automatically reignited.
