<p>The application is principally to high voltage, heavy current, overhead transmission lines with, for example, three chains (11) of insulators in parallel at every tower support arm. To give damping which will prevent fracture of any of the remaining insulators should one of the chains break a deformable bar (12) is fitted across the live end of the support system. Normally the insulators are joined in pairs by yokes (5). These are then coupled to a further yoke (9), through a linkage (8), which is attached to the current carrying cables. The damping strip bridges the yokes (5) at their points of attachment to the insulators (11). All the joints are of the hinge type.</p> |
