Filter for dewatering suspensions consists of a rotating cylinder with a sieve or cloth passing as an endless band around it. A feed inlet is mounted at a distance from the cylinder by means of which a pre-dewatering is achieved through the band before the cake reaches the cylinder. there is a scraper device to remove the cake from the cylinder. The inlet is mounted on the inner side of the band before the cylinder. The inlet has a distributor box and immediately below this is a support for the belt. This latter has a suction connection. The surface of the cylinder has grooves in it which run the guide wires of the belt. Also additional compression belts can be provided to press the main belt onto the cylinder. The belt can have a convex profile in the region of the feed box. Used esp. for dewatering fibre slurries in paper making. On such devices there is often a problem of the slurry being sprayed out from between the belt and the drum, if filtration rates are increased too much. This filter gives a prefiltering effect and allows increased outputs, simply and cheaply. |
