<p>The safety cap is fitted to the filler pipe of a petrol tank and prevents leakage of petrol through the breather hole in an accident. It comprises a metal plate(4) fitted inside the cap(3), a breather hole(7) being provided in a central dished area. A flexible membrane(6) is positioned over the metal plate(4), sealed at the edges(6a), the central surface(6b) being free to move. A breather hole(8) is provided to one side of the membrane. In the event of an accident causing petrol to enter the filler pipe, the liquid pushes the membrane against the plate to seal the air passage.</p> |
