A container with a heat-securable tamper-indicating wax-coated closure sheet is disclosed herein. The container comprises a base with a sidewall extending upwardly from the periphery of the base and defining a substantially circular open top, or mouth. A square-shaped sheet of flexible closure material is disposed over the rim of the mouth of the container and is engaged between the container rim and a superposed container lid. Each of the four corners of the sheet extend beyond the periphery of the lid to form tabs which project downwardly alongside the container sidewall and are heat-sealingly secured thereto. The container lid is seated in the open mouth of the container and over the major portion of the closure sheet, so that only the tabs are exposed. If one of the tabs is detached from the container sidewall, a visual indication is given that the container may have been tampered with. The lid is not sealed to the closure sheet, so that the lid may be removed, if desired, without disturbing the closure sheet. The midportion of the lid is dished, or recessed downwardly, so that the containers can be readily stacked upon one another in a retail outlet. |
