1528630 Archery targets L S MEYER 18 Dec 1975 [18 Dec 1974] 51950/75 Heading A6S [Also in Division B5] An archery target consists of layers of sheet resin material separated by layers of resilient and porous material. The sheet resin material may be polyethylene, nylon, vinylidene chloride or p.v.c., &c. The resilient and porous material may be resilient foamed polypropylene, polyethylene, flexible urethane foam or low density mats such as curled hair, cellulose, fibre glass, &c. As shown, a target is assembled from a number of board elements, each consisting of a polyethylene sheet 20, Figs. 5, 6, enclosing two layers 22 of foamed polypropylene on opposite sides of a central strip 23 of sheet polyethylene. Vulcanised fibre strips 24 stiffen the edges of the element. End portions 25 of the board elements are fuzed or heat sealed. Three board elements are so heat sealed together in offset relationship, to provide a section having a tongue, (right-hand side of Figs. 5, 6) and a groove (left-hand side of Fig. 6). Three of these board sections are slotted together to form a front layer of a dartboard, and a further three arranged at a right-angle to the first three are slotted together to form a bottom layer of a dartboard, Figs. 1, 4. Two envelopes 26a, 26b of transparent polyethylene are then passed at right angles to each other over the assembled board layers with a target sheet 27 having score markings inside. Alternatively, Figs. 7-9 (not shown), a single envelope may be employed. A fibre board, &c. stiffener, Figs. 12-14 (not shown) in the form of a strip may surround the assembled target within the envelopes. The board elements can be made in a continuous process from strips of polyethylene sheet and porous material fed from rolls into apparatus which applies edge strips to the sides of the layered assembly and heat seals the edges together, Figs. 16-19 (not shown) (see Divisions B4-B5). In alternative forms of board element, the central strip 23 is omitted, and the edge strips are omitted, the edges of the board elements being heat sealed to provide a fuzed resin edge, Figs. 10, 11, respectively (neither shown). A wire stand 56, 61, &c., Fig. 26, held in place by a cord 65, may be secured to the target and includes a pivoted ground-engageable spike 60. The target, stand, &c. can be provided in kit form, Fig. 15 (not shown), for assembly when required. |
