<p>A process for preparing 1,1,1-trichloroethane by reacting chlorine monoxide with chloroethane, 1,1-di-chloroethane, or a mixture. The process is conducted at a temperature of -20.degree. to 80.degree.C., preferably from 0.degree. to 40.degree., in the liquid phase and in the absence of actinic light. When employing the above conditions, 1,1,1-trichloro-ethane is prepared in high yields, and only minimal amounts of other polychlorinated ethanes are produced.</p> |
