The height-adjustable hand-basin is for use in domestic bathrooms and the height of the basin (25) above the floor adjusts to suit the user. The appliance includes supply taps (26) and a waste pipe (29) with the latter (29) provided with a flexible pipe coupling. The basin may be mounted on one or more telescopic legs (24) with springs or hydraulic jacks (21) providing servo-assistance to manual controls. Each leg (24) may comprise two intersliding tubes which are fixed to the floor and the basin. The spring assisted version may utilise a calibrated compensating spring in association with stops and a locking-handle. The hydraulic version may be controlled by a foot pedal (22). The supply taps (26) may be either fixed to a wall or be mounted on the basin and have flexible pipe couplings (28).
