The method of improving working conditions in mine galleries, includes the use of heat insulating and reflecting sheets to reduce the amount of cooling required at greater depths. At the point where mine supports are erected behind the face conveyor the sheets (2) are mounted vertically between the supports and the gallery wall. The face (2) remote from the conveyor carries a reflective layer. This curves inwards (3) at roof and floor level so as to form a seal at those regions. The other side can be reinforced with chambers filled with a liquid or gas.
