Titanate ceramics, partic. those based on barium titanate, are prepd. from oxide, carbonate, etc. A part of the starting materials is only added after the reaction of those starting materials forming the main material. These starting materials are reacted separately to give a cpd. which is then added to the already formed main material. On heating this mixt. at the firing temp. of the sintering process a eutectic melt is formed. When electrical conductivity is required, the starting materials used to produce the cpd. may be doped. Pref. the starting materials used to produce the cpds. are mixed in proportions to produce an empirical formula Ba6Ti17O40, BaTi3O7 or BaTiSiO5. The ceramics are used to produce semiconductor components, or capacitor junction components.
|
