The maize harvester has spaced, upright pick up bodies which turn about their axes and each are provided with a non-covered top section, a divider and a stalk lifter which rises towards the machine housing. The stalk raiser (8), emerging from the tip of the stalk divider, ends at a distance in front of the machine housing (1) at the height of the top, non-covered part of the pick-up body (5). The raiser forms a pick-up chamber with the end of the stalk lifter (8) with the divider (6) as the bottom benndaz. The stalk lifter (8) runs within the divider shoe (7), starting at the tip of the straw divider (6).
