1525348 Production of multinuclear phenols BAYER AG 2 Aug 1976 [2 Aug 1975] 32063/76 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention relates to the preparation of compounds of formula wherein R 1 and R 2 represent a radical of Formula II in which R 3 is H or -CH 3 , and R 4 represents H, an alkyl group or a group of formula or one of R 1 and R 2 is H and the other is a radical of the Formula II, or mixtures of compounds of Formula I, which may contain 0 to 80% by weight of Bisphenol A, wherein Bisphenol A is reacted with a phenyl alkenyl compound of Formula IV in which R 3 has the meaning specified above and R 5 represents H, an alkyl group or a group of Formula V in which R 3 has the meaning specified above, in the presence of a catalytic quantity of aluminium phenolate. The following compounds are prepared in the Examples:- 4 - (41 - hydroxy -α,α- dimethylbenzyl) - 2 -α,α- dimethylbenzyl - phenol and 4 - (41 - hydroxy - 31 -α,α- dimethylbenzyl) -α,α- dimethylbenzyl) - 2 -α,α- dimethylbenzyl phenol.
