<p>A colloidal suspension of wheat, barley or rye starch prepd without intermediate drying, pref. a concn. 7.5 degrees Be, is subjected to a first hydrocyclonic sepn then the prod from the bottom is subjected to a second hydrocyclonic a sepn and the bottom product is strained, dried to give large starch particles practically destitute of materials other than starch and of a size distribution, such that >=22% are of size >=22 mu and about 99% are of size >=12 mu. Prods can be crosslinked, e.g with urea-formaldehyde, and opt. oxidesed to increase their heat stability. Pref. the hydraulic press in feeds to first and second stages are 10.5-14.7 kg/cm2 above atmospheric. Prods can replace the large starch granules obtd from expensive and rare roots esp. arrowroot and are partic. suitable or use as superficial protective particles for carbon-less duplicating paper.</p> |
