1525468 Change-speed control A E ARMSTRONG 22 Sept 1975 [23 Sept 1974] 38859/75 Heading F2D [Also in Division B7] A bicycle gear control device comprises a rotatable member 60 connected in use to the gearing 16 by a biased member, e.g. 14, stop means 32 engageable with the member 60, and a manually operated actuator 38 movable from a rest position, Fig. 1, against the action of a spring 108. To change gear in one sense the actuator is moved from the rest position to a position, Fig. 3, in which the actuator disengages the stop means 32 from the rotatable member 60. The member 60 can then rotate under the influence of the biased member until it contacts an abutment 103 on the actuator, and the actuator is then released to be returned to its rest position by the spring 108 whereupon the member 60 can continue to rotate under the influence of the biased member until it is reengaged by the stop means 32 and the gear change is completed. To change gear in the opposite sense the actuator 38 is rotated from the rest position beyond the Fig. 3 position such that the abutment 103 drivingly engages and advances the member 60 against the action of the biased member, Fig. 5, and, when clear of the actuator, the stop means 32 re-engages the member 60 to hold it in its advanced position and complete the gear change, the actuator then being released to return to its rest position. |
