The apparatus is composed of a vessel (20) in which is situated an insert (22) serving for receiving activated charcoal (23). To this insert (22) leads a channel (24) which serves for feeding the solvent-containing air. The solvent is adsorbed onto the activated charcoal and desorbed by steam. In order to free the solvent from higher molecular compounds, such as proteins, fats and surface-active substances, which prevent the adsorption of the solvent, a prefilter (19), which contains activated charcoal, is introduced into the channel (24). The apparatus is used for example in the recovery of perchloroethylene from air, for example in connection with drycleaning of textiles. <IMAGE>
