The personal scales have an illuminated scale lit by a battery supplied lamp and a corresp. indicator needle is designed for simple mfr. despite incorporation of the illumination system and to guarantee adequate illumination. The scale carrier (12) is made of light conducting material and is fixed in the scales housing (1) with a part in close proximity to the lamp (11) so that the whole scale is illuminated by transmission. A vitreous transparent material may be used for the scale carrier. Light transfer from lamp to scale carrier may be improved by use of a projection on the carrier.
