Hydrogenation is normally effected at 0-50‹ C. and 1-5 atmospheres absolute pressure in a hydrocarbon solvent such as heptane. In examples, the compound wherein R1 = R2 = phenyl is used as catalyst in the hydrogenation of PhC#CPh and trans - stilbene to PhCH 2 CH 2 Ph, and of the compounds PhCH = CH-CH = CHPh, cyclohexene and 1- octene.
