In a nuclear reactor control system, a neutron absorbent gas, <3>2He, mixed with an inert gas, is pumped through a pipe system in the core or reflector and control is effected by pressure adjustment of the gas. The pressure of the gas within the reactor is adjusted by valves or by a pressure drop tubing network from which the required pressure may be tapped. The irradiation of the <3>2He in the reactor produces hydrogen and tritium. A purification system is provided in which a catalyst effects the combination of the hydrogen with oxygen to form water. The tritium charged water is absorbed by a silicon gel.</p> |
