Applying permanent relief images to wood - by wetting the wood surface and hot pressing against a relief plate

Process is claimed for applying a relief effect on the surface of natural wood. The wood is first wetted with a liq. in an amt. which is sufficient to wet the whole surface of the wood to which the relief is to be applied. The moistened surface of the wood is then pressed with a relief press plate at >52.5 kg/cm2 and at 149-288 degrees C for a period sufficient permanently to deform the surface of the wood. Process can be used to create an attractive and decorative permanent relief design on wood, plywood, etc. The prods. are useful as building materials, wall panels, furniture parts, etc.
