Amino-containing azo metal complex dyes are obtained when nitro-containing azo metal complex dyes are treated with hydrazine in polar solvents in the presence of catalytic amounts of a heavy metal compound. The amino-containing dyes are used for example for preparing reactive dyes by acylation of the amino group with a reactive component.
