Fuel consumption of a motor vehicle engine is determined by measuring displacement of a piece of machinery which directly influences petrol consumption such as the carburettor butterfly valve or the crankshaft. A drum (1) normally attached to a carburettor valve is submitted to forces (F1) applied by the accelerator pedal. Concentric with the drum is a second drum (1') to which a cable (3) is connected. This cable operates a rack subjected to return action of a spring. The rack drives gears to drive a second rack carrying an index (10) which moves over a scale (11) graduated in litres per hour or per hundred kilometres, as appropriate for the vehicle.
|
