<p>Adsorbent consists of water-insoluble, cross-linked, gelatinised starch with ionic substits. linked to the starch through ether gps. and associated mono- or di-valent counter ions, pref. ammonium ions, the degree of substn. by the cross-linking gps. being 0.001-0.04, pref. 0.003-0.02 and by the ionic gps. pref. is not 0.1, such that the starch deriv. has a urine retention value of is not 6, pref. 8-20 g/g. The adsorbent is used in prods. for absorbing liquid, esp. a sanitary towel or tampon. Absorption is irreversible and the material is practically dry and non-tacky in the swollen state.</p> |
