New medicaments for dissolving or partially dissolving gallstones contain plant extracts of ivy as therapeutically active ingredients, together with usual adjufants and carrier materials. yThe extract is produced by extn. of ivy with an organic solvent, with or without the addn. of water. In an example coarsely powdered ivy leaves (Hera hederae) are extd. with 60% ethanol and the oily part of the extract is sepd. off. 0.7 g. of oily extract are dissolved in 100 g. olive oil to give a pharmaceutical formulation.
