PURPOSE:To improve recovery ratio by brominating bisphenol A in methanol solvent, filtering off the resultant brominated bisphenol A (hereinafter referred to as TBA), adding water to the obtained filtrate, distilling and purifying the mixture and separating the methanol and HBr. CONSTITUTION:Bisphenol A is dissolved in methanol solvent and nearly a theoretical amount of Br2 is then added at about 20 deg.C to age the mixture. A sufficient amount of water is subsequently added to deposit crystals of the TBA. Vacuum filtration is then carried out to filter off the crystals and water is further added to dilute the HBr concentration to about <=10%. The TBA is subsequently extracted and separated with chlorobenzene. The residual distillation stock solution is then distilled and purified to recover the methanol from the top of the distillation column and the HBr from the bottom of the distillation column. The methanol is reutilized as a reaction solvent and the HBr is further concentrated and reutilized as HBr in a high concentration or subjected to oxidation treatment with Cl2 and recovered as Br2.
