[Also in Division F2] In a paper web feeding machine each pinwheel 34 of guide units 16, 18 is releasably clamped on a splined drive shaft 10, 12 by a sleeve 40 integral with the wheel and divided into a series of spring fingers by longitudinal slits 42 and carrying a garter spring 46 movable to an outer position against a stop 48 in which it causes the fingers to grip the shaft and to an inner position adjacent wheel 34 in which the fingers are released from the shaft. As shown the outer surface of sleeve 40 is of double conical form so that spring 46 is self-operable with a snap-action to roll down the slope to either end from the region of maximum diameter. The spring may be moved manually or, as shown, by a manually operable bell crank 58, 60. |
