The rear axle for a heavy road vehicle has gears in two parts (1a, 1b) with hydraulic motors (102a, 102b) and output shafts and sleeves (104a, 104b). The sleeves are held in roller bearings (106a, 106b, 107a, 107b) and teeth 108a, 108b) engage a toothed wheel (109a) is mounted on a shaft (110a) with teeth (111a).
