The biological aquarium filter incorporates a filter container in the form of an enclosed pot (3) through which the water flows. Above the filter medium (5) is a free space (7). A mixture of air and water being filtered is conducted via an inflow pipe (12) into this free space. The depth of the lower free space (11) is determined by a ventilation pipe (22) near the underside of the filter medium. The ventilation pipe opens into a suction pipe (19) leading from the water collector space (9). An injector (21) is positioned on the pressure side of a pump (20) in the suction pipe (19). An overflow pipe (23) leads from the water collector space into the free space above the filter medium.
