1520840 Gas lasers COHERENT Inc 22 Dec 1976 [2 Jan 1976] 53540/76 Heading H1C A gas laser is supplied by the series combination of a first D.C. power source 24 and a second, low current, D.C. source 28, the latter being in parallel with a diode circuit arrangement 32-36. The high voltage (35 KV) and low current required for initiating operation of the laser are provided by the series combination of 24 and 28, diode 32 at this stage being non- conductive. Once laser action starts, the high current drawn (50 mA) reduces the voltage across terminals 26 and 30 to virtually zero. Hence diode 32 becomes conductive, source 28 is bypassed and the lower voltage (25 kV) needed to maintain laser action is provided solely by source 24.
