The sparking plugs 32a, b are preferably located on a line between the inlet 16b and exhaust 18b ports and spaced apart adjacent the combustion chamber periphery. The combustion chamber C2 may be hemispherical, cylindrical or formed as depressions in the top of a piston (not shown). The engine is preferably of the crossflow type with the exhaust ports of adjacent cylinders siamesed. The exhaust ports may be lined with a heat-insulator, and the exhaust system can include an afterburner and/or an exhaust cleaning catalyst. |
