A decorative lamp shade (1) is of polygonal cross-section with concave surfaces (4) which meet to form sharp edges (2). The surfaces are supported at their upper and lower edges by being folded over a flat bar formed to the required shape. The surfaces are made of translucent plastics sheet with a layer of decorative fabric which are then bonded together along the edges. The shades may be delivered to the retailer before they are attached to the support rings. They are then finally assembled by folding the upper and lower edges of each surface over the corresponding edge of the support ring. The support rings may be made of cast iron or moulded plastic instead of flat bar.
