A prismatic alkali metal anode with a construction that can be used in electrochemical cells with a high discharge capacity. The anode structure wears uniformly and has low IR losses. It also has a fixed electrically conducting smooth substrate coated with two alkali metal foils. The substrate (20) has a mesh shape with a layer of metal rigidly adhering to opposite surfaces of the substrate. Each layer of anode material consists of a lithium foil. The composite unit is constructed by making use of its cold welding properties. The mesh (24) fits into a frame with a larger cross-section to increase rigidity. |
