<p>The electrical switch is particularly for use as a protective circuit breaker, having fixed and moving contacts working together inside an arc chamber, enclosed on both sides by arc-resistant plates, particularly of ceramic material. One at least of the plates has a surface towards the arc chamber giving off a gas quenching of the arc, typically formed by a coating of gas-emitting material. The plates can be hygroscopic ceramic material, moistened by gas-emitting liquid, typically by impregnation under vacuum. Acrylic resin can be used as the gas-emitting material, while the plates can be of polyester fibre impregnated with it.</p> |
