A probe, esp. for an electronic stethoscope, includes a circular disc-shaped piezo electric transducer element (13). The piezoelement is located within a rigid electrically conducting fitting of mass greater than that of the element. The fitting has an opening with a shoulder (37) which retains the edge of the piezoelement. An actuator projects through the opening and transmits vibrations from the patient's body to the transducers. The actuator (36) may conveniently be spherical and retained by a conical shaped opening (40) in an insulating cap member (39). An elastic ring (41) within the opening grips the actuator.
