The shaft coupling has axially freely engageable parts, esp for a cruising mill and has an outer part (7) with internal teeth (6) engaging the external teeth of an inner part (5). The internal teeth are straight while the external teeth are rounded about a pivot centre (A) on the axis of the inner part to allow for angular misalignment of the parts. The outside (9) of the outer part is spherical about the pivot centre. A housing (2) surrounding the outer part is secured to the inner part and supports a seal ring (8) engaging the spherical surface and lying in a plane through the pivot centre.
