Bags are made by bonding the edges of two cover sheets or textiles together and enclosing /-1 strip of a third matl. having its opposite wedges welded to the inner surfaces of the upper and lower covers respectively. The weld seam seams for the partition strips may be staggered laterally w.r.t. the width of the covers. The partition strips may be made of thermoplastic matl. or of a non thermoplastic tapes bonded along the edges of the strips. The partition strip may be folded, with the weld surfaces on the same face of the strip. The thermoplastic component may be preheated before insertion between the cover sheets. Partitioned envelopes may be mfd. continuously and subsequently cut into shorter lengths and seated transversely. The bags obtd. can be used in the mfr. of eiderdown quilts, feather filled mattresses or pillows with the stuffing contained in individual compartment within the covers. Covers with welded seams can be produced more quickly than ones with stitched seams. The external covers do not have to be folded as when forming a stitched seam, therefore surface design patterns are undisturbed by seams. |
