The laminated core (1) is located circumferentially and clamped together axially by a longitudinal clamping keys (5, 6). The resulting core assembly is fixed to the stator frame (2) through a spring coupling attached to the keys (5) at the points of maximum frame stiffness. This arrangement ensures that the transmission of core vibration to the machine foundations (4) is at a min. Points of max. stiffness typically occur in the region of the stator frame feet (3) and the spring mounted core clamps may be grouped in these places. Typically the attachment of core segments to the clamping bars (5, 6) is by means of a dovetail arrangement.
