The electric coffee maker includes a fresh water container and a coffee filter has a heating element for keeping the coffee container hot. The heating element is mounted in a cavity in the housing which either adjoins the coffee pot or at least partially surrounds it. The coffee pot is thereby enclosed by a hot air buffer which prevents any heat loss to the outside. The coffee filter and water container are pref. detachably mounted above the coffee container pref. at least partly in the pot part of the container which projects at least partly into the heated cavity in the housing. This is of special advantage when the brewing water is heated by a constant flow heater.
