Tube and shell heat exchanger with jacketed tubes - and a condensate drain in the cooled hot gas exit chamber

Heat exchanger comprises a bundle of cooling tubes each surrounded by a respective jacket whose ends are fixed to jacket tube sheet which separate the cooling tube section from cooling gas entry and exit chamber communicating via the tube sheets with the jacket interiors. The cooling tubes extend through the cooling gas entry and exit chambers and are fitted in respective cooling-tube tube sheets that separate such chambers from hot crude gas entry and exit chambers, the latter chamber having a condensate drain. Used for indirect heat exchange of hot crude gas and removal of resultant condensate. High heat exchange between the hot crude gas and pure cooling gas is achieved in spite of the attendant formation of a heavy condensate e.g. tar-dust mixt.
