The connection between a face conveyor (3) and floor members (e.g. 14) connected to a return cylinder (1) for advancing the conveyor towards the coal face in a mine gallery, engages the base frame (2) which also forms part of the guide for the travelling mining machine. The whole forms a travelling unit (7) which can also swim about a vertical axis and includes a rotary trunnion (10) with a groove (8) across top and bottom. These fit over the toothed lower edge (4) and top edge (5) forming part of the hollow open side box structure mounted on the side of the face conveyor. The trunnion is housed inside a sleeve (11) mounted between horizontal arms (9) attached to the trough section floor member (14). These arms can also swing with this sleeve (11) so as to form a cardan shaft.
