Water from the coating is evaporated by electromagnetic radiation of micro-wavelength, pref. of a frequency between 100 and 23,000 MHz. The water vapour is pref. extracted from the enrober by entrainment in a current of gas, partic. warm air. The source of radiation can be a magnetron, klystron etc. located inside or outside the enrobing pan. Wave guides are pref. used to direct radiation towards the prod. from the source. Prods. enrobed are claimed in the fields of confectionery and pharmacy. Used for spray-enrobing nuts, chewing gum, chocolate almonds etc. with sugar coating. Enrobing pharmaceutical pills, tablets pastilles etc. with suitable coatings, e.g. methyl cellulose. The process offers a significant reduction in enrobing time compared with previous methods.
|
