Herbicidal compsn. contains as active ingredients the thiocarbamate of formula (I) and a urea deriv. of formula (II). (X=6-8C cycloalkyl. R1=H or CH3. R2=H, CH3 or C2H5. R3=CH2 or C2H5). Pref. wt. ratio (I): (II) is 2-8:1, esp. 4-5:1. (II) is pref. N'-cycloactyl-N,N-dimethylurea (IIa).(I) and (II) are known selective herbicides but are of limited use when applied alone. Together there is a synergistic enhancement of both activity and selectivity; they do not need to be incorporated into the soil and optimum activity does not depend on particular conditions of soil moisture. They are esp. used for pre-emergence control in sugar beet and spinach crops.
