The central heating system comprises a hot water tank (1) within which is a hot gas duct (11, 12) in the form of an inverted U section with one limb (11) connected with a gas burner inlet (22) and the other end connected with a vertical face. The latter runs adjacent to two small hot water cylinders (6, 7) which have a return pipe (5) coupled to the main heater at the side. A third feed line from the top of the main heater (8) leads through a buffer cylinder (29) to parallel sets of central heating radiators (18, 27) distributed through the building. Each radiator has its own control valve.
