[Also in Division C3] Kraft paper is rendered fireproof by impregnating with a solution of phenol-formaldehyde resin in an aqueous solution of a C 1-4 alkanol of at least 37À5% concentration including 1-10% of an alkyl phosphate and 2-10% of ammonium bromide. In the example formaldehyde and phenol are dissolved in aqueous ethanol, a mixture of ammonium bromide and aqueous ammonium methyl phosphate is added and the final composition is used to impregnate kraft paper which is laminated. |
